Since January 2007 Katrin has been working on a range of patterns inspired by memories of items from her childhood, and she has named them after the family members that they represent. For example, 'Christa' is an adaptation of a pattern on a set of plastic herb containers that were in her aunt's kitchen and 'Johnny' comes from a shirt that her dad wore when she was very young.

She enjoys making functional ceramics, as opposed to purely decorative items, because she likes to think that some of her work might achieve a symbolic status in another family's lives by becoming a well-used and familiar part of their domestic scenery.
