Ryujiro Oyabu works in stoneware, throwing and hand building vessels with striking glaze decoration.
Oyabu says, 'My pots, their shapes and the fines line applied, reflect the passage of time, which leave a mark on all life as it grows, such as the annual ring and the stratum. The clay of the pots comes to life again through the process of firing after having a long life as soil or clay itself. They are the result of soil regeneration in order to give another long life with the beauty and my spirit'.
Until recently Oyabu was based at the Chocolate Factory in Stoke Newington, but he has now returned to his native Japan to take up a position as a Lecturer at the National University of Fine Art and Music in Tokyo.
