Alexandra Mitchell makes ceramic tableware, vases and plant pots, that are decorative yet highly functional. She uses a small batch production method usually found in industry (a jigger-jolley machine) for speed and consistency of size, so bowls and plates can be neatly stacked. She also uses the more traditional method of studio potters, the wheel, to create tall or curved shapes.
Despite the uniformity of size and shape, no two pieces are identical, as the surface design is hand-painted. The colours and patterns, (inspired by 1950's textiles and a love of plants), are designed as a co-ordinating range. Alexandra says 'I like the idea that people can choose a combination of patterns and colours to make up a set of bowls and plates, and that they can add to their individual collections as time goes on'. The pieces are high-fired so are strong and dishwasher-safe.
