Jill Ford takes inspiration from the landscapes of Yorkshire, where she lives and works. Whether the Lower Derwent Ings, with their flat flood plains and boundless open sky, or the windswept coastline. She says, 'the pattern of the landscape is dominated by strong horizontal bands of water, fields and sky. Straggly lines of willow and smoky blackthorn thickets mark out field boundaries. Sharp shafts of sun highlight the vegetation or silhouette spindly birch copses. In the winter months, freezing temperatures produce delicate layers of ice, which cling to the edges of brimming dykes.'
Working in porcelain to create simple and elegant forms, Jill then scratches out designs with delicate lines, applying glazes, slips and oxides to achieve contrasting textures
and finishes.
The Ceramics Boutique stocks a selection of Jill's work, including decorative bowls and vases, wall-pieces made from textured ceramic tiles and candlesticks (which are waterproof and dishwasher proof which means they are also ideal for use as stem vases).
